Saving for College (Newborn - 8th Grade)
Participants are introduced to information that will prove invaluable in choosing the savings plan best suited to their family’s needs. In addition to developing a foundational understanding of financial aid and income taxation, eight specific college savings plans are presented, ranging from traditional custodial accounts and United States Savings Bonds to the more recently available 529 Savings Plans and Coverdell ESA’s.
Homework and Study Skills (2nd - 6th Grade)
A thorough understanding of the value of at-home reading and study skill development is critical to a student’s success. This topic gives parents the tools they need to identify different learning styles, instill efficient study habits, and enhance their children’s reading and writing skills. Participants are given key strategies to assist with homework and become more effectively involved with their children’s education and academic development. Practical suggestions and solutions to common problems are also offered.
Discovering Your Child’s Interests (6th - 8th Grade)
This topic offers a comprehensive review of interest categories (i.e. Artistic, Investigative, Social) and an understanding of how this information relates to an individual child. Parents learn how to identify opportunities that help students further develop their natural talents and inclinations. In fostering each child’s unique strengths and building a foundation of non-academic activities, early interest identification will yield multiple immediate benefits and, ultimately, will help prepare students for both high school and college applications.
