Saving for College (Newborn - 8th Grade)
Saving for college can seem like an insurmountable task and causes anxiety for the majority of families. This workshop begins with an overview of college financial aid available and income tax repercussions. College Coach will educate families about the myriad options available for saving for college and also introduces different methods of paying – drawing on savings, using current income, or investing in one of eight specific savings plans, including 529 Plans and or pre-paid tuition plans. Families will learn how much college may cost in the future, how to determine which of the savings options is right for them, as well as key considerations to keep in mind throughout the process.
Paying for College (11th and 12th Grade)
In addition to the challenge of gaining admission, parents are faced with the daunting task of paying for this priceless education. College Coach provides a comprehensive overview to how parents can tackle the challenge of paying for college. This workshop explores the wide range of programs available – including loans, scholarships and work study – and provides in-depth advice to families on how best to determine which options are right for them. Families will learn when and how to apply, how eligibility is determined, and how to avoid tricky caveats hidden in the fine print. Families will leave this workshop with a full understanding of options available in order to make the decision that best suits their needs. It will also guide families on the most effective way to appeal the decision and/or negotiate for more funds if financial needs aren’t being met.
